BOTOX
BOTOX® (Botulinum Toxin Type A) is a muscle relaxant that is injected into the muscles or deep into the skin to control the persistent muscle activity in areas that easily develop lines and wrinkles, such as the forehead and eye area.
I've seen many advertisements for Botox treatments. How do I know which one to trust? BOTOX® must only be injected by healthcare professionals with specific skills on how to use the medicine. |
How long does the procedure last?
The procedure takes around 15 minutes, during which your practitioner will ask you to make some facial expressions in order to understand your facial muscles. Your practitioner will then use a very thin needle to inject the diluted product into the appropriate muscles.
Will I be able to see the effect immediately, and how long does it last?
Over the course of 5-10 days you will begin to see the effect and the smoothing effect of the treatment typically lasts up to 4 months, so repeat treatment will be necessary to maintain the effect. BOTOX® should only be injected by a practitioner who has been appropriately trained on the product.
Are there potential side effects I should be aware of?
The protein used in BOTOX® has been used for nearly 16 years and has been tested extensively for safety and efficacy. As with all medicines, BOTOX® can cause side effects and your practitioner will advise you about these.
Should any side effects occur, they will usually be temporary and mild to moderate. Most are linked to the injections, such as pain on injection site, redness or swelling. Other side effects, such as drooping of the upper eyelid, can be caused by a spread of the injection into nearby muscles but are temporary in nature.
There is very small risk of BOTOX® causing an unwanted effect away from the site of injection. If you develop breathing, swallowing, or speech difficulty, please seek medical attention immediately and contact your practitioner.
